Fruit

There are twelve different types of fruit. When you first start animal crossing new leaf your town will have its own fruit, which will be the only fruit that will grow in your town until you plant different fruit trees. You can get other fruits by picking them from trees on the island which you can unlock after one year of being in the town.

Other fruits can be earned; if you haven't been in your town for a few months, there will be about 60 weeds around your town and a sleeping sloth (leif thumb) somewhere around your house if go up and talk to him he will ask you to help him clear up all the weeds. Once you have cleared up most of the weeds he will  give you a piece of fruit that is exotic to your town you can plant this by digging a hole and burying the piece of fruit.
